“If I had a dollar for each time someone said that, well…” The old man paused and stared out over the street, “I’d be at least a few dollars richer.”
I don’t know what I expected. Here I was just trying to get an answer to a simple question, but the way these townsfolk looked at me you’d think I had asked it in Latin.
“So… is that a no?” I tried not getting frustrated, but this was getting tiresome. The old man leaned back in his wicker chair and crossed his arms.
“Now, now.” He spit. “I didn’t say that, did I?”
“No, but -” He raised a hand, cutting me off.
“Just this ain’t the kind of thing we take kindly to around here, kiddo.” I leaned against the edge of the porch and sighed.
He laughed while speaking, “best I can say is try some rock salt.”
Beth, my daughter, is traveling through Asia and is scheduled to reach Hong Kong in a few days. Of all the places and countries she’s visited, Germany is the one place she is most looking forward to visiting. I think it’s because she adores Chinese cuisine and is a true aficionado of Chinese beers.
Beth was given the trip as a college graduation present from her Granny and Poppa and I’m so thankful she’s had this opportunity to go abroad and see the beautiful landmarks, countryside and people of Asia.
She’ll be staying in a luxurious room in one of the Hong Kong hotels. Beth said she researched where to stay in Hong Kong nd says this area is one of the most exciting regions in Asia.
Although we miss her very much and can’t wait for her to return, I know she’s gained so much knowledge and sophistication from traveling through parts of Asia that she’ll be changed for life.
Nothing makes a mother more sentimental than her daughter buying her first house. Women in my generation had to get married first before they were able to buy a house. This younger generation is doing things differently. They are buying homes whether they are married or not. It goes both for the young men and women. My daughter took me to see the house before she put her bid on it. She wanted my opinion. The first thing I noticed was the wall of windows. Those windows would need Manchester blinds. We could go shopping and spend time together.
Yes, my daughter got her house. I got my wish to help her shop for the wall of windows. In fact we have lots of things to plan and buy. The only thing better than helping plan a wedding is helping my daughter decorate her new home.
My teenage daughter came to me the other day with a unique idea. Some of the ideas from a teenager’s mind are well… off the wall. This brilliant idea is literally off the wall! She suggested we make living walls spelling out her name and age. I was not at all hesitant, so we began research on the subject right away. This is a growing trend in contemporary homes and offices. They are easy to make and the results are endless. She wanted to spruce up her room decor and add some plants, but space is limited and we love creating ideas together. First we found the perfect spot, so we could measure the frame correctly. Then we went to Lowe’s and found a beautiful assortment of small plants. We then found an online site to help with specifics. She is proud to have her name displayed as living art.
